Children from schools from four different local authorities accross South Wales took part in the Schools day which ran alongside the Yonex Welsh International held at Sport Wales National Centre.
Children from the Vale, Torfaen, Cardiff and Merthyr took part in sessions held over two days. They participated in fun badminton activities which included throwminton, freestyle keepy ups and low serves.
Following on from the fun activities the children were involved in a question and answer session with international players. Questions ranged from "what is your highest achievement?" to "do you have any pets?" The children received signed posters and Badminton Wales goodies to take to the main arena to watch all the action.
At the main arena the children had the opportunity to watch players from 16 countries from around the world including Sweden, Malaysia, India, New Zealand and of course Wales.
One teacher commented that "this was a fantastic opportunity as not only did the children take part in the fun activities but they also were able to watch world class players. This has inspired many of the children, and they now want to attend their local badminton clubs to learn to play like the international players they have seen here today."
