    South Powys gets BISI

    CH on 23/09/11

Tuesday 20th September saw the first BISI course delivered to teachers from the Ystradgynlais Secondary School cluster primaries. BISI – Badminton Into Schools Initiative – is a fantastic resource that is very easy for primary school teachers to use as it takes them through a series of lessons step by step making it harder for the more able children and easier for the children that haven’t quite got it. The resource covers Foundation Phase which is aimed at introducing and reinforcing the 7 Primary Movement patterns which can be related to all sports and then moves into Key Stage 2 where the 7 Primary Movement Patterns are linked to Badminton.

7 teachers attended the course and all really enjoyed it. They found the resource easy to use which in their own words was a ‘God Send’ as Primary school teachers have to be a master of all subjects, so already having the lesson plans in place means a lot less work for them. All schools that took part have now taken the resource and BISI bags and are finding the time in their already busy schedules to fit in BISI badminton either in curriculum or extra-curricluar time.

Martyn Lewis – BDC for South Powys delivered the course and said - ‘ This was a very successful course and enjoyed by all. It was great to see even the teachers having some fun using the BISI equipment.’

There are 3 more BISI courses going ahead in South Powys over the next week so hopefully we will have BISI badminton being played by hundreds of Primary school children.
