Gearing Up for Glagow...

So it’s been almost a week since finding out the BIG news of being selected for the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games… And what a week it’s been! It was amazing to receive the email saying that I was one of six players selected for the squad. After such a bad start to the season with my arm injury, I had to work twice as hard to come back more determined than ever. Once my arm had healed, I had a hard few months of physiotherapy and strength training ahead of me, but I hoped that it would all be worth it. Daniel and myself had to enter tournament after tournament, almost every weekend over the past couple of months, in order to work our way back up the rankings so we could qualify for the Games. Up until last week though, we were still unsure if we had done enough! After receiving the news, I know now that all the hard work has finally paid off and I cannot wait to get to Glasgow!

This week I received my kit for the Games, which was extremely exciting for both me and my family! There has also been a lot of excitement over social networking sites, as well as in the local paper. I feel overwhelmed by all the support that I’ve received from friends, family and the local community.

Now that all the excitement has started to die down though, it’s time for me to really knuckle down and train as hard as I can in order to get myself in the best possible shape for the Games. I am training every week now in Cardiff with my doubles partner Daniel, as well as the rest of the Welsh squad, and after each day of training I am growing more confident in my performance.

It is an amazing honour to be chosen to play for my country, and I cannot wait to represent Wales in the Games. I only hope that I can do my country proud by playing as well as I possibly can during both the team and individual events.
