Leadership Award in Badminton
The award is made up of three modules; Modules 1 and 2 focus on the generic leadership skills of communication and organisation, while Module 3 is badminton specific and enables learners to put their generic leadership skills into a badminton teaching context. Learners with no previous leadership qualification will complete all three modules, whilst those with a Sports Leaders UK Level 1 or 2 qualification will only need the three hour Module 3.
In Module 3, learners will look at warm-up and cool down activities, see how badminton is broken down into its major skills, and will be given the opportunity to lead others through the process of simple skill acquisition. They will learn how to officiate at a basic level, and by the end of the module will have to lead others in a badminton activity or game.
The award is presented as a 6 hour course for Modules 1,2 and 3 or a 3 hour course for Module 3 on its own. This includes the completion of a practical assessment and Candidate Record of Achievement.
Badminton Wales is able to deliver modules 1, 2 and 3 but also module 3 on its own.
Successful candidates will be presented with a 'Leadership Award in Badminton' certificate, endorsed through Badminton Wales and Sports Leaders UK, and will be able to assist in the delivery of badminton activities.
Who is the award aimed at?
Predominantly at young people from the age of 13 upwards, but it is also available to parents, teachers, leisure and youth centre staff, and volunteers.
Cost is £30 per candidate (minimum 10 candidates, maximum 20 candidates per course) provided that the venue is free. For module 3 in isolation the cost is £20 per candidate (minimum 10 candidates, maximum 20 candidates per course).
