Daniel Font heads up the Welsh men’s singles ranking with Chris Pickard in second position and Michael Kinnear third. Font has had some good results in recent months reaching the Quarter Finals in the Bahrain International Series and Challenge. Font currently lies 160 in the world rankings.
In the ladies singles Carissa Turner remains at No 1 with Aimee Moran at No 2. Gean Sou Mo and Ellen Mahenthiralingam are in 3rd and 4th position respectively. Turner has had a tough year with numerous injury setbacks and will hope for an injury free 2014. Turner is currently ranked 135 in the world.
Morgan and Strange lead the way in the men’s doubles and are currently 77 in the world rankings. After their success at the Cyprus International the boys have reached a further two finals; the Bulgarian and Israel Open.
In the ladies doubles, way out in front still are Carissa Turner and Sarah Thomas (world ranked 97). The girls started off the year well winning the Cyrus Open however due to injuries have struggled to find the form they had in 2012. 2014 will be a big year especially with the Commonwealth Games scheduled for July.
Oliver Gwilt and Sarah Thomas top the mixed rankings at the end of 2013 with some good performances on the European tour, including their first international win early on in the season at the Cyprus Open. Oliver gained a nasty arm injury back in August, which has prevented him from playing any badminton for the last few months. Hopefully he’ll be back to regular training in the New Year. The pair currently lie 392 in the world.
