Welsh Universities Cup 2015

 Welsh University Cup

This weekend Badminton Wales will be welcoming students from 5 Welsh universities to the Capital for the Welsh Universities Cup. The Universities are:

  • Cardiff University

  • Bangor University

  • Swansea University

  • Cardiff Metropolitan University

  • University of South Wales

Players will compete over 2 days of competition, putting their skills and abilities to the test. Day 1 will see the universities endeavour for team success whilst Day 2 will see the players compete for individual glory.

In this year’s team event, Cardiff University take the No. 1 seeding due to their success in the BUCS premiership this season with Swansea taking the No.2 seeding after their success in previous years. Nonetheless, the team event promises to be fiercely competitive with newcomers Cardiff Metropolitan University looking to make an impact whilst Bangor are looking to improve on their semi-final place from the last Universities Cup. Since the last Universities Cup, Newport University and Glamorgan University have merged to form University of South Wales and with the merger brings a strong collective.

The individual event boasts club, county and senior squad players making for a hotly contested competition.

‘Badminton Wales are excited for the future prospects of University Badminton in Wales following the recent formation of the Welsh Universities working group. The Welsh Universities Cup is a two-day tournament enjoyed by a diverse range of competitors studying in Wales. We are very much looking forward to seeing the high standard of play expected by these students, as well as the excitement that comes with watching these rival Universities battling out against each other for the title.’
