With over 200 games to get through and 7 different age groups Saturday 17th January was a busy day of badminton at the 2015 Vets Masters.

In the over 35 age group Chris Short picked up the doubles and mixed titles, partnering Chris Fieldhouse and Sian Platt. Paul Weathersby won the over 35 men’s singles prevailing over Steve Keen 21-16. Carol Davey and Sian Platt took gold in the ladies doubles.

Short then went on to add the over 40’s men’s singles and mixed doubles event, however he couldn’t quite make it a clean sweep losing in the final of the over 40 men’s doubles to Roy Watkins and Chris Fieldhouse 21/12. Sian Elvis defeated Eve Morgan 21-14 to take the gold medal in the ladies singles and like Short picking up a total of 4 titles on the day.

Despite Eve’s loss to Elvis in the over 40 ladies singles, Eve was another player to enjoy success in the other age groups claiming a total of 4 titles on the day. Eve added the 35 & 45 ladies singles and 40 & 45 ladies doubles partnering Viv Edwards.

Roy Watkins was the over 45 men’s singles champion with a hard fought victory over Steve Ellaway. Simon Evans and Carina Williams eased to victory in the mixed doubles, with Gez Thompson & Simon Evans picking up the men's doubles (pictured below).

Welsh Masters

In the over 50’s age group Steve Ellaway edged out doubles partner Steve Miles in the final of the singles winning 21/19, 21/13. Jane Givelin added the singles, doubles and mixed title to her name. Partnering Lindsay Richards in the ladies doubles they edged out Diane Blackburn and Ceri Goodman 21/19 in the final. Kevin Perry and Craig Gardiner took gold in the men’s doubles.

Sue Walters and Dave Stopgate claimed the over 55 mixed doubles title with Diane Blackburn and Ley Wooley picking up the ladies doubles.  Huw John won both the over 60 & 65 mens singles titles. Ronnie Woodland partnering Huw John in the over 60 mens doubles won both the doubles and mixed title.  Woodland partnered Sue Walters in the mixed doubles, and they overcame David Williams & June Williams 21/12 to lift the title.

Doug Guy and Tom Cantle were the winners in the over 65 men’s doubles with Pam & Richard Hall winning the mixed.
