Wales March On - Commonwealth Update

Yesterday the pressure and the level moved up a gear at the games.

Wales however had great successes with Sarah Thomas and Carissa Turner overcoming a highly rated Australian pairing in three close games. The Aussies took a close first set and very nearly the match when sitting at 20 all in the second, however the tenacity of the welsh pair took them through in the end to a last 16 placing. Font and Gwilt had a very tricky match against Henry and Palmer of Jamaica winning 21-19 and 22-20. Earlier in the day Turner had beaten Johnson of Guernsey but Font could make no impact on seeded Indian Kidambi. In the final match of the night Joe Morgan and Nic Strange had little success against the number three seeds form Singapore. The second game was a different story however with the welsh pairing reaching top form and coming close to taking the match to three sets, only over eagerness at the net cost them dearly.

All in all a good day for the welsh shuttlers but three very tough matches today to get closer to the sharp end of the event.
