Welsh Team Olve 2015

Gean Sou shines in Olve

It was one final and a semi for Gean Sou Mo over the Easter weekend at the Olve tournament. The talented youngster played very well to reach the semi-finals of the U17 girls singles before falling to one of the strong trio of Russian girls who had made the trip to Belgium. The match was close but the Russian's accuracy from the rear court became the deciding factor. The big bonus came in the girls doubles where Amy Jukes played better than for quite some time to help the pair through many tough matches to reach the final. They were again scuppered by Russians whose solidity in defence was tough to overcome. Nevertheless a somewhat unexpected final in this category should give Amy the boost she has been looking for after some months beset by injury and illness.

The variety of players from more and more countries entering Olve make this event extremely demanding as the years go by with consistently tough matches in every round. It remains an excellent event for young players to cut their teeth and as a tough challenge for the more experienced ones.
