The first Welsh Satellite Series (WSS) of the season got underway last weekend, the Swansea ICE WSS.
The day started with the mixed doubles and it was second seeds Chris Short and Carla White who took the title in fine style prevailing over Ben Gorell and Alice Palmer 15-13, 15-5. Next up was the men’s doubles which saw many competitive matches. Darius Garnham, partnering John Davenport, picked up his first WSS title win overcoming the experienced pair of Oli Hartery and Chris Jeynes in 3 close games 15-12, 12-15, 15-12.
Alice Palmer and Pippa Rogers defeated Carla White and Judith Hughes in the ladies doubles 15-13, 15-8. However Jude overcame her ladies doubles disappointment by adding the ladies singles title to her name. With a good performance against a good up and coming junior player (Niharika Singh), Jude went on to win the match 15-10, 13-15, 15-9.
Onto the men’s singles and this event did not disappoint with some excellent matches on display. All the top seeds won their respective groups and progressed into the knockout stages, with top seed Dom Brown going on to take the title. Dom defeated John Davenport in what proved to be an excellent final 15-12, 18-16.
