Commonwealth Games

Yesterday was the first day of the individual tournament.

Some of the players had welcoming comfortable matches with Carissa Turner and Dan Font winning easily against a Kenyan girl and a Botswana man, although the latter was in reality a competent player. Later on Oliver Gwilt and Sarah Thomas in the final match of the day failed to build on a one set advantage against the New Zealand Leydon-Davis brother and sister pairing. The Welsh pair faded badly as the match went on and lost comfortably in the third. Today the pressure increases with Font playing the 4th seed Kidambi Srikanth from India. Turner and Thomas play top 60 world ranked Australian pair Guan and Somerville in late afternoon. Turner looks to have a winnable match against Elena Johnson of Guernsey as do Font and Gwilt who play Henry and Palmer of Jamaica. Joe Morgan and Nic Strange have the toughest task when they play 3rd seeds Chrisnanta and Triachart of Singapore later tonight.
