Liverpool Open Tournament

North East Wales Badminton players Andrew Oates and Tom Sudder started the new season with sparkling performances in their first tournament turnout of the 14/15 season. Both boys, who have been training hard through the summer, played in the prestigious Liverpool Open Tournament in Sept.
Andrew Oates played in the U17 Silver Open which attracted entries from all over the country beating players from Cheshire, Lancs, Yorks, Lincs and Staffs to bag himself a very well earned place in the Final facing Elliott Robertson from Yorkshire. Andrew gave his older opponent a scare by taking the first game 15-12 however Elliott's greater experience came through and Andrew lost in an exciting 3 setter. Andrew also partnered Conwy's Joe Cottrill in the Doubles bagging an excellent 3rd place finish.

In the U15s of the same tournament, the up and coming Tom Sudder played some classic badminton in the group stages beating graded players to emulate Andrew and reach the final where he lost a very close encounter to Christopher Tu from Cheshire. Tom went one better though in the Doubles partnering Derek Zhao from Lancs to come out on top with an outstanding display of badminton
The next outing for the NEWBA Shuttlers is the Welsh Junior Open in Deganwy next weekend.
