Newport Leisure Centre was host to the largest Welsh badminton tournament in years this Sunday. The Newtown Motors Nissan WSS tournament descended on Newport with over 100 entrants. Players from all the Gwent and Cardiff badminton clubs and National squad players were joined by a number of English players who ventured over the border to attend the event.

The main sponsor for the event was Newtown Motors Nissan in Cwmbran. Dealer Principal Glyn Davies commented,

“We were delighted to support such a successful event which engages so many badminton players not just from Gwent but across Wales”.

Tournament organiser Mark Thomas of Penhow added,

“We are very grateful for Newtown Motors sponsorship, without which, the tournament could not have happened.”

Prizes for the winners were sponsored by the Celtic Manor Resort and USA Nails, with Badminton Wales' CEO Eddie O’Neill presenting the players with their well earned prizes.

“We are delighted to see such strength in badminton participation in South East Wales."

O'Neill continued, “Congratulations to the Newport Badminton Club, they have shown all clubs in Wales how make a tournament a real success.”
