Oliver Gwilt and Daniel Font were given the chance to tackle the English top seeds Andy Ellis and Chris Adcock this evening at the Commonwealth Games in the quarter finals of the men’s doubles. Had the Welsh pair lost by 10 and 10 or less no one anywhere would have been surprised.
What came next was quite something!!
A decent start so not too much of a hammering, ahead at the break and then a game up!
Surely the English pair would then run away with the match and when the second game went their way it seemed that might happen, but at 15 all in the third the top seeds were rattled and a sensational win was a possibility. As is so often the case though the lower ranked pair eased off slightly and the higher ranked pair are let off the hook.
No one could quite believe what they had seen but the Welsh pair have been putting performances like this together for years and did so again when it mattered.
Well done Dan and Oliver!
