The 2013 NEWBA WSS took place at Deeside Leisure Centre with players from, Cheshire, Shropshire, Gwent, Monmouth, Glamorgan and NEWBA taking part. The event was officiated by Margaret Redfern & David Shore who was warmly welcomed back after 12 months away from the game.
Connah’s Quay’s Luke Tanner, ranked 10th in Wales, came through the rounds in the men’s singles to take on Michael Kinnear (Gwent), ranked 3rd in Wales. Michael took the first game 21/10 with Luke fighting back in the second to take it 21/16. Then in the final game the class of Michael showed itself and despite a battling performance from Luke, he went down 8/21 to take the runner up position.
In the Men’s Doubles Michael Kinnear and Eddie Jones from Monmouthshire (pictured above) took the title overcoming Stephen Ridge (Shropshire) and Hai Nguyen (Shropshire) 21/10 and 24/22.The Ladies doubles were won by Flint’s Carla White and Judith Hughes from runners up Izzy Cain and Anneke Perrett (Connah’s Quay). The Mixed doubles event went to John Davenport (Cheshire) and Carla White who were always in command, outgunning Stephen Ridge and Ellen Liddle (NEWBA) 21/10 and 21/8.
A good weekend for Michael Kinnear and Carla White who both came away with 2 titles apiece.
