"Coaching is the ability to reduce the complicated to the simple"

The Coaching Pathway

School leaders are encouraged to attend the Leadership Award in Badminton to develop an understanding of the game and be able to deliver fun sessions.

School teachers, club helpers and leisure centre attendants would benefit from the Coaching Badminton Workshop. Similar to the Badminton Leaders Award candidates are introduced to the rules and laws and fun games, however this workshop is more progressive as it delves into strokes and grips. This workshop is a great bridge to stepping onto the coaching ladder.

The coaching ladder in badminton starts with UKCC Level 1. Coaches who are competent at this level are invited to join Badminton Wales’ Coaches Register where they will receive numerous benefits and insurance to coach as an assistant to a Level 2 coach.

Active coaches will be encouraged to progress to UKCC Level 2. This is the lowest coaching qualification that will give coaches the skills, knowledge and insurance to coach independently (provided the coach is part of the Badminton Wales Coaches Register).

Alongside the UKCC coaching courses, Badminton Wales will provide UKCC Level 1 and 2 coaches with development and training opportunities. These opportunities are largely produced; to keep coaching knowledge and practice current, from needs analysis completing as part of UKCC assessment days.

Continuing professional development opportunities in 2012 will include:

1.   2012 National Badminton Coaches Conference, date TBC

2.   Performance Analysis Workshop

3.   Effective Feeding Workshop

4.   Effective Footwork Workshop

5.   Coaching Disability Badminton Workshop – various dates and  locations
